Bienvenue TEAM ALVØEN NORWAY! Who are you?

ALVØEN NORWAY MAP ©Leiv Leiv Fasmer replies: TEAM ALVØEN NORWAY consists of 4 employees from the company ALVØEN AS plus 5 friends/family/shareholders. Alvøen is a small community in Bergen on the west coast of Norway. The main facility was the Paper Mill (Alvøen papirfabrikk), established in 1797, which among other services made the paper for the Norwegian paper currency. The paper mills were stopped for good in 1981, and it was then the oldest paper mill in the country. Today there is a thriving SMB environment in Alvøen, whereas our family company Alvøen AS today markets CNC machinery and engraving systems in Scandinavia (www.alvoen.no).

We are very excited to welcome a Viking team in Monaco, but why an Ironman and why Monaco?

ALVØEN NORWAY ©Leiv Leiv Fasmer replies: Last year, after a 54km cross-country ski event (The Norwegian Birkebeiner) my brother and I started talking about doing a triathlon. We have been competing a couple of years now in different cross-country skiing races and some mountain bike races, so it all just made really good sense: We needed to aim higher. Let's go for it. Let's go for an Ironman 70.3.

The Formula 1 of Triathlon! ©Gleiss My brother, Hendrik, had read about the Ironman 70.3 in Monaco in a magazine and we both immediately decided that this would be the perfect venue for our triathlon debut. Spectacular scenery, nice temperature both on and off shore and finishing it all of in Michael Schumacher's Formula 1 race track. Could it be any better?

The next day, my brother returned to his office and motivated his staff at Alvøen AS to join. Besides myself, 3 other friends joined as well and since then we've all started training from scratch. In short, we'll be 9 newbies with the same goal: To make it to the finish line in our first ever Ironman, and to make this happen we'll bring our friends and families with us to cheer us along. Watch out for the Norwegian Viking delegation of approximately 20 persons!
